Pathways

Building a practice patients choose shouldn’t mean guessing at every step. Pathways gives you five free tools, in order, so you always know your next move.

“It’s no longer about being the best doctor in the world, but about being the best doctor FOR the world, FOR your patients, and FOR your local community.”Michael Tetreault, Editor-in-Chief, Concierge Medicine Today. A guiding principle of CMT and the Concierge Medicine Forum.

Most physicians can explain their medicine in one sentence. Fewer can say whether their patients trust them, whether their team is helping, or whether someone is about to leave without saying why. These tools help you find out.

free tools, built from that research and arranged as one path

Not sure where to start? STEP 1

What kind of guide am I for my patients?

Most physicians market to everyone and connect with no one in particular. The Physician Archetype Test shows what kind of guide you are for your patients, so the right patients recognize you. Fourteen questions, about five minutes.

Take the Physician Archetype Test

Your five steps

Built for physicians, specialists, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants exploring or leading a membership-based practice. Start with Step 1, or jump to the step you are on.

  1. Learn

What kind of guide am I for my patients?

Physician Archetype Test. Discover your leadership style, what gives you energy, and the patients you are built to guide. About five minutes.

    Open Step 1
  2. Learn

    Is this right for me?

Readiness and Model Check. Changing your practice model is too important to decide on a hunch. See whether you are ready and which model fits your life and your numbers. About eight minutes.

    Open Step 2
  3. Build

How will the right patients find me?

Community Marketing Planner. Good physicians shouldn’t have to become full-time marketers to be found. Check whether your message sounds like care, then get a 90-day plan to reach the patients who fit your practice.

    Open Step 3
  4. Lead

    Why do my patients stay?

Patient Loyalty Check. Patients rarely tell you why they leave. Measure who stays, who refers, and what each relationship is worth after costs. About three minutes.

    Open Step 4
  5. Lead

What happens to my practice next?

Practice Legacy Planner. The relationships you built deserve a thoughtful next chapter. See what your practice may be worth and plan who will care for your patients next.

    Open Step 5

Why trust this research

Concierge Medicine Today has surveyed and interviewed patients and physicians in this field since 2007, asking why people search for a doctor, why they stay, why they leave, and why they would refer a friend. That research used to live in books and reports. Each tool in Pathways applies it to your situation in minutes, and each tool’s methodology section names exactly where its numbers come from.

Most physicians can explain their medicine with confidence, and their marketing, hospitality, referrals, and reputation with a shrug. Not because they don’t care, but because no one gave them a practical way to measure it. That is where patients quietly leave and practices quietly plateau.

Take your results into the room

CMF is CMT’s annual leadership gathering for physicians and innovators in concierge and membership-based medicine, October 15 to 17 in Atlanta. Connection with peers was the most common wish among 2026 registrants. Bring your results and your questions, and learn from people who have built it.

Important information about these tools
  • Every tool in Pathways is a self-assessment, based on the information you provide and, where noted, on patterns from CMT’s own patient survey data. None of these tools access, analyze, or verify your patient records, financial statements, or business filings. Enter totals only, never patient names or health information.
  • Results are directional estimates, not measurements, guarantees, valuations, or predictions, and should not be the sole basis for a business, financial, legal, employment, or clinical decision.
  • Tools that reference financial value, including the Readiness and Model Check, Patient Loyalty Check, and Practice Legacy Planner, do not constitute a business valuation, appraisal, or financial opinion. Consult a qualified appraiser, accountant, attorney, or financial advisor before any decision involving the sale, valuation, or restructuring of a practice.
  • Nothing here is medical, legal, financial, tax, or accounting advice. Concierge Medicine Today, LLC is not a law firm, accounting firm, financial advisory firm, or valuation firm, and using these tools creates no professional or advisory relationship.

Methodology

Concierge Medicine Today has published independently in this field since 2007. Its Editor-in-Chief has academic training in public relations, marketing, and journalism and more than 25 years observing the concierge and membership-medicine industry. The editorial team has conducted nearly a thousand interviews and podcast conversations with physicians, executives, and policymakers, and has authored CMT’s own books and research on marketing, hospitality, and practice sustainability. The tools draw on that body of work, including CMT’s patient surveys and complaint analysis, alongside third-party research cited in each tool.

About these figures

Figures on this page (years in the field and number of interviews) reflect CMT’s internal records and have not been independently audited. They are provided so you can evaluate the source, not as a claim of superiority over any other publication, research organization, or individual.

Frameworks

Pathways follows CMT’s Learn, Build, Lead framework and is organized as a simple step-by-step plan in the spirit of Donald Miller’s StoryBrand framework (Building a StoryBrand, HarperCollins Leadership, 2017). Individual tools credit the authors and frameworks they draw on. CMT is not affiliated with or endorsed by any of them.
